Doing maternity portraits, especially when both parents take part, is really special to me. I like to be able to show off that belly – but there’s something much more important I like to highlight, and that is the relationship between the Mommy and Daddy-to-be – and their anticipation and love for their upcoming addition. Doing this in the studio allows me the chance to use some dramatic lighting (flattering for EVERYone) to really highlight the mood, and show the beauty of Mom… Love these portraits!

Photographer Education | After Dark | Dallas, TX

As a professional photographer, it’s imperative to stay on top of my education. There are always new innovations, different methods, and just awesome and new ways to be inspired to create a new type of art. After Dark Education is a wonderful event where hundreds of photographers gather to learn from each other, and from volunteer mentors, who are pioneers in the industry, and who share freely and openly during this event that is truly like no other. I was considering attending when I heard it would be in Dallas, and was put over the edge when I realized they had chosen the Hilton Bella Harbor, right here in Rockwall, as their venue. It was amazing! Here are just a few images from the 3-day event – my mind was spinning afterwards!

A special family | Rockwall Maternity Photography

I was so honored to have been chosen to photograph this special family. Although they are already parents to beautiful twin girls, who came to them through adoption, they came to see me, to celebrate their pregnancy, and were eagerly anticipating the arrival of their third child! I had so many shots from this session that I loved – it was hard to narrow down – so I’m sharing a LOT… I am LOVING the colors they chose for their portraits – this shows you great examples of both color, and also keeping things neutral. Enjoy!

What an exciting time for this family, as they prepare to welcome a new member! Big brother probably doesn’t have a clue that his world is about to change drastically – so glad they took time to enjoy their family of three before welcoming their little girl at the end of the year. T & Patchi | Rockwall Pregnancy Portraits

This blog post, while very late, is fitting today – because today I actually shot this beautiful couple’s newborn portraits of their 6-day old son. These maternity portraits were taken back in July – it was the beginning of this heat wave we are in – and T & Patchi were such troupers – they agreed to meet at 7:30 a.m. (that’s IN THE MORNING) to get their session done before it got too hot. We were able to use a private residence with a yard that was a DREAM – I so love shooting in new locations! If you’d like to check out their new son – head on over to my Facebook page – I just posted a quick one today, because I could not stand to share at least one!

I also have to add… Lately I have had an opportunity to do more maternity portraits, and then come back later for newborn portraits. Part of what I do is capture the connections and relationships of a family – whether it be one just in the beginning stages, or one that has been going strong for some time. I find it makes such a huge difference when I have a chance to meet a couple and get to know them during their maternity session – the newborn session just seems that much more special, and I really do feel like I gain new friends with each couple I meet and follow through this exciting first year!

I have had an influx of maternity clients recently – which just warms my heart… There is nothing like this special time, especially when it is your first child, as is the case for Crista & Jason. I have recently begun offering these maternity sessions as mini-sessions – and it works really well! We even had time to do a quick maternity silhouette at the end of the shoot – which I just love…

Friday I had an influx of maternity clients (THREE to be exact) come by the studio. It reminded me that I never did blog a sample from our Maternity Silhouette event we held in April with Wee Dreamscapes! One client in particular who attended the event in April, also came by on Friday to have an updated silhouette done – I hope she can make it in in another two months before the baby comes – how cool for her to have these progression images to remember her pregnancy by!
