Newborn sessions continue to be one of the most satisfying things I do as a photographer. So much goes into them – it’s the hardest thing I do – but also the most rewarding. When you get ‘the shot’ – NOTHING is better. I am so grateful to my clients, who are often coming over before they’ve healed themselves, so we can get these portraits in during the optimal timeframe (7-10 days old). It truly is a joint effort, and so so worth it – especially in Evie’s case!

I was surprised when Liam’s Mom called to tell me it was time for his first birthday session – the time just flies by – I could hardly believe that little Liam was already nearly 1! One of the things I love most about my job is the many opportunities I have to continue furthering my education and skill development. No matter how good an artist is, striving to improve and perfect our craft is what helps us to grow, and to continue to be excited every time we photograph our clients! I was fortunate enough to be able to learn from a nationally recognized newborn photographer back in January down in Austin – it was a day absolutely jam-packed with learning, lots of tips, lots of ‘aha’ moments that have made photographing newborns that much more enjoyable! Instead of continuing to ramble on – take a look at just a handful of the images I captured that day – we had three adorable models – we couldn’t have asked for anything better!

Little Miss Sadie was due between Christmas and New Year’s – but she didn’t want to miss Santa, so she arrived just before Christmas! She came to see me on New Year’s Day – my very first 2012 client! Her brother came along, and the camera just loves him… And I adore this outtake of them together – Sadie seems very certain about something!

It was pretty special, because my clients invited me into their home, and it was spectacularly decorated for the holidays – truly amazing! Despite the freezing temps (I seriously think it was around 39 when we met) – they did amazing! Since I have girls myself – I enjoy getting a glimpse into what life is like with boys – and let me assure you – there is never a dull moment. This is my second fall photographing this sweet family. Their oldest son is in my oldest daughter’s class at Fulton. Last year (2010), their youngest wasn’t yet walking – so this past fall was a whole new ball of wax – he was busy, and off and running the entire session! I actually love it – I love to capture them exactly how their life is in that moment – and that includes a toddler that is a runner! I can’t wait to see how much everyone changes by this coming fall!
